My Introduction to Graphic Novels

Acting on another tip from the BIL and inspired by the plot of his most recent screenplay, I stopped by Bergen Street Comics after work to pick up some graphic novels. I was told that Ghost World was the place to start by the BIL. Here's what I walked away with:

Drinking at the Movies, by Julia Wertz
Fun Home, Alison Bechdel
Ghost World, Daniel Clowse
Wilson, Daniel Clause

I must have done well because the cute 20-something cashier (requisite dark frame glasses you ask? check) started nodding approvingly at my purchases right away. He then told me he had begun to collect 'early Clause'. I think he thought I was in da club so to speak. Apparently, Clause before he became a prestigious 'alternative graphic novelist' used to self publish dark and unwittingly comical (hehe) stories that were heavily influenced by Tales from The Crypt. Or that's how glasses boy tells it anyway.

One of my favorite pages from the Drinking at the Movies book by Julia Wertz

  2. I'm on p171.
I love the way she ends chapters 3. With the pic of her in the library and her dad reading Zelda. So triste.
