Julia Wertz on surviving her first year in New York:
"Here's some pretty solid advice that stands the test of time: Get a subway map and pay close attention to which trains are express. Do not take things home from the street; you will get bedbugs/ New Yorkers love to give directions, but half of the time they are wrong. Of you have to use an apartment broker, ask for proof that they're legit because often they're not. Lie on your resume. If you're poor, never leave home with more than twenty dollars. You'll piss it away, and you wont even know how. Invest in a good pair of winter boots.
